AGFOOD KITS
C.3. BIOFOOD Kits
detection of meat composition in fresh and processed samples

BIOFOOD kits have been developed bearing in mind sensitivity as well as capability of detecting DNA from various species in the highest possible variety of food samples. BIOFOOD Kits are closed systems, in the sense that all the tools for the different steps of the detection reaction are included in the kit: DNA Purification (included on demand, to remove all contaminants efficiently, thus preventing false negatives), DNA amplification, and control DNAs (that is, positive controls in order to discard amplification failure, false negatives or confusing results).

BIOFOOD Kits are divided into three different levels:

  • BIOFOOD Standard Kit: detection of vertebrate material in fresh and processed samples. It indicates presence/absence of vertebrate material, but it does not identify which species are present. This kit is useful for screening of animal feed and detection of animal material in it.
  • BIOFOOD Identification Kit: detection and identification of the most commonly used mammalian and bird species used in animal and human food, applicable both for fresh and processed samples. The first reaction indicates presence/absence of vertebrate material. Product from the first reaction is digested with a maximum of three restriction enzymes, identifying the species present in a given sample, even those underrepresented. This kit is useful for the exhaustive control of feed composition.
  • BIOFOOD Mixed Kit: detection and identification of 6 species using a single reaction (horse, sheep, cow, pork, chicken, goat). This kit is useful for the fast countercheck of feed composition (e.g. label vs. reality) in homogeneous samples
